You may have heard of the HCG diet, or were recently prescribed the HCG Diet to go along with your dose of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). Here I want to answer a few questions about the HCG Diet, and provide you and HCG Diet recipe option for those of you who are on the HCG diet.

The HCG diet is considered a very low calorie diet, usually around 500 calories per day. This is a major reason that the diet is considered controversial. The reason the HCG Diet plan recommends consuming only around 500 calories is because HCG, the hormone around which the diet program is based, causes the hypothalamus to continually release stored fat in the body. As a result your body is actually consuming for calories than the 500 calories a day you are eating because of the fat calories which your body is burning. Studies have shown that the weight lost on the HCG diet comes from adipose fat. This means that the body is not feeding on muscle for energy as is often the case when on low and very low calories diets.

Flank Steak With a Kick
Ingredients (recipe is for one serving)
100 grams or 3.5 ounces of Flank Steak
(The rub ingredients below are also portioned for one serving, to save time in the future feel free to mix larger quantities and store them for later use. You can also make multiple 100 gram (3.5 oz) portions to reheat later.
1/4 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
Cooking spray (I recommend an olive oil spray)

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

Mix elements of the seasoning together

Rub seasoning into steak

(If you have never applied a rub to a steak before simply take your mixture of spices and herbs and rub into the steak applying enough pressure so most of the rub will not fall off. Apply the rub to one side at a time and apply as much as desired, typically until the side is mostly covered. This can be done shortly before cooking, but it is recommended that you apply the rub to the steak and allow the steak to sit overnight. This will result in a more flavorful meal.)

When you are ready to cook you can either broil or grill the steak. Since it is a steak you can cook until you reach your favorite level doneness. For the HCG diet there is no specific level of doneness recommended since you are eating a lean cut of steak, so enjoy it at your preferred level.

HCG Diet recipes call for lean cuts of meat. When shopping for steak, ribeye and London broil are usually good choices. Ribeye is a little more expensive, but slightly leaner than London broil. For value on the HCG diet London broil is a great choice. Steak is great for quick and easy meals while on the HCG diet plan, in addition to dry rubs, which can add a lot of flavor without adding significant calories you can also look for sauces low in calories that go great with steak. My family often uses soy sauce when we eat flank steak.

I hope you enjoy this HCG Diet recipe. Steak day on the HCG diet plan is often one of the most looked forward to especially for those who have tried other diets which often restrict the consumption of red meat. I hope this recipe provides some well-deserved enjoyment on your way to the body you want.
